Reasons for Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products

While some people do not think twice about the environmental impact of their everyday household cleaning products, many cleaning product formulas consist of chemicals that are extremely detrimental to the environment which creates a strong necessity for more environmentally friendly cleaning products.

There are several reasons people are shifting towards more environmentally friendly cleaning products, and one of the most important reasons is to directly improve overall household health. Many families have noticed that “symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, skin rashes, headaches, and more may “mysteriously” disappear once you stop using toxic cleaning chemicals” (Peltier, 2018). Some of these hazardous chemicals include, “carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, and endocrine disruptors” (Peltier, 2018). These chemicals are known to cause various diseases that can be deadly, such as cancer. Knowing this information should make most people seek safer cleaning products for their homes.

Another motivation for more environmentally friendly cleaning products is to help the overall natural environment of the planet we live on. Shifting towards more environmentally friendly cleaning products containing “naturally derived, safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable ingredients” ensures no harm is done to the natural world and resources we rely upon (Peltier, 2018). Building a more sustainable world is an excellent reason to start using green cleaning products.

Surprisingly, many people are making the shifts to save money. Many cleaning products can be made at home with natural ingredients such as lemons and vinegar. Another way people save money is by “buying eco-friendly all-purpose cleaners that do multiple jobs, so you won’t have to purchase other products” (Peltier, 2018). Due to the shift towards green products, their prices have been decreasing and are sometimes even cheaper than their toxic commercial competitors.
